Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra Attends AFD’s 20th Anniversary Celebration in Sri Lanka

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra attended the 20th anniversary celebration of Agence Française de Développement (AFD) in Sri Lanka, alongside representatives from France, the European Union, and AFD.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Minister Hemachandra highlighted AFD’s significant contributions to Sri Lanka since the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. He noted the agency’s support in key sectors including water supply and sanitation, urban development, renewable energy, and climate resilience.

The Deputy Minister expressed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for the continued assistance provided by France, the European Union, and AFD in supporting the country’s development priorities.

He also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with its international partners in areas such as sustainable development, trade and investment, climate action, and digital transformation.

The event marked two decades of AFD’s engagement in Sri Lanka and highlighted the longstanding partnership between Sri Lanka, France, the European Union, and AFD in promoting sustainable and inclusive development initiatives across the country.
