MP Rajeevan Jayachandramoorthy Calls for Focus on Real Issues Affecting Tamil People

Member of Parliament Rajeevan Jayachandramoorthy has stated that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has clearly and firmly affirmed that Sri Lanka will not return to a war situation and that there is no possibility of armed movements such as the LTTE re-emerging in the country.

In this context, the MP emphasized that arguing that certain songs or artistic expressions promote militancy is an unrealistic approach. He noted that art, literature, and music serve as reflections of people’s history, memories, emotions, and lived experiences, and therefore should be understood within their broader social and political context rather than being criminalized.

Rajeevan Jayachandramoorthy further pointed out that Tamil people continue to face a number of unresolved issues, including land disputes, cases of missing persons, political power-sharing, economic development, education, and employment opportunities. He stressed that as long as these fundamental concerns remain unresolved, it is natural for people’s emotions, memories, and artistic expressions to continue to emerge.

He urged all parties to avoid actions that could create unnecessary controversy or inflame sentiments and instead focus on addressing the genuine problems faced by the people. According to him, such an approach is essential for strengthening reconciliation, mutual understanding among communities, lasting peace, and national unity.

The MP also stated that he has informed the Deputy Minister of Defence regarding the matter and expressed confidence that the government would take appropriate action. He appealed to the public not to be misled and emphasized the importance of acting responsibly for the benefit of society.
