Assistant Manager and Security Officer Arrested Over Rs. 35 Million Bank Robbery in Horana

Two officials of a state-owned bank in Horana, including an Assistant Manager and a Security Officer, have been arrested in connection with the robbery of Rs. 35 million.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday (June 3), when a bank employee was carrying two bags of cash through the rear entrance of the bank. At that moment, an unidentified individual allegedly snatched the bags by force and fled the scene.

The stolen money, amounting to Rs. 35 million, was reportedly being transported for deposit into ATM machines.

Police launched an intensive investigation into the robbery and began examining the possibility of insider involvement. Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, suspicions arose regarding the involvement of bank employees in facilitating the crime.

As a result, the bank’s Assistant Manager and Security Officer were arrested on charges of aiding and abetting the robbery.

Police are continuing further investigations with the suspects and have intensified efforts to recover the stolen cash and identify any other individuals connected to the crime.
