Treasury $2.5 Million Fraud Report Must Be Submitted to Parliament, Not Personally – Harsha de Silva

A report related to a $2.5 million financial fraud case, sent by the Treasury Secretary and marked for “personal review only,” was rejected by the Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance, Harsha de Silva.
He stated that the report should be formally submitted to Parliament, rather than being addressed to him personally, emphasizing that such matters fall under the authority of the parliamentary committee.
The issue was discussed during a recent meeting of the Committee on Public Finance in Parliament, where members reviewed the handling of the report and related financial concerns.
Dr. de Silva further noted that he is acting as a representative of the public and as Chair of the committee, and therefore all official reports must be submitted through proper parliamentary channels for review and action.
He also criticized the Treasury’s decision to send the document to his personal address, stating that it was inappropriate and inconsistent with parliamentary procedure.
The committee has instructed that the full report be submitted to Parliament without delay to enable further examination and decision-making regarding the alleged financial misconduct.
