Research incentives of Rs. 25,000 each have been awarded to 40 selected projects from the research proposals submitted for the National Youth Development Research Conference (NRSYD 2026).

This initiative was carried out as a key milestone of the conference jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Open University of Sri Lanka, with the aim of driving social transformation through active youth participation. The awarding of incentives to 40 selected researchers took place yesterday (29).

The event was held at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the patronage of Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage.

Under the theme “Young People as Right Holders and Change Makers: Asset-based Pathways for Social Transformation,” 40 outstanding research proposals were selected from submissions made by university students, independent researchers, and policy makers across the country.

Each of these selected research projects received a research incentive of Rs. 25,000.

Speaking at the event, Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage stated that development initiatives based on research can deliver more effective outcomes. He also noted that this is not merely a routine programme but a major initiative aimed at generating essential data for youth development.

Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Dinidu Saman Hennayake, stated that youth development activities are being implemented based on research in line with the policy vision “A Satisfied Youth – A Free Mindset.” He further highlighted that this is the first time such a national research conference is being conducted in Sri Lanka.

The selected research projects cover key contemporary areas including the digital and green economy, education and leadership, artificial intelligence (AI) and media, mental well-being, climate change, and youth participation in governance.

The final findings of these research projects are expected to be presented at the upcoming national research conference.
