State-of-the-Art Media and Learning Facilities Opened at Ratmalana Technical University

Modern equipment has been installed in the television studio of the media production unit built for the practical training of students at the University of Vocational Technology Sri Lanka in Ratmalana, and the upgraded facility was officially handed over for student use on May 26, in the presence of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.

Alongside the television studio upgrade, several newly constructed facilities aimed at expanding students’ academic and practical learning opportunities were also inaugurated.

These include a broadcast studio for launching internet radio channels and other educational media services, an artificial intelligence laboratory, and a Gender Equality and Justice Centre.

In parallel, a laptop donation program was conducted to support students from schools affected by recent flood disasters, ensuring continuity of their education.

The university also officially launched its “UOVT Greening Policy,” which promotes environmentally sustainable development across all construction and infrastructure projects within the institution.

Under this policy, the university aims to transition into a carbon-neutral institution by 2030, while also encouraging students in technical and vocational education to pursue green technology-based employment opportunities in industry.

Following the event, the Prime Minister held discussions with representatives of the student union.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Nalaga Kaluwewa, and Vice Chancellor of the University Professor K.M.G. Prasanna Premadasa, among other dignitaries.
