India Donates 134 Pickup Vehicles to Sri Lanka Police Under Friendship Programme

A total of 134 pickup vehicles donated by the Government of India under the India–Sri Lanka Friendship Programme for use by the Sri Lanka Police were officially handed over at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (Monday, 25).

The ceremony was held under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

It was reported that the Indian government spent around 300 million rupees on this donation. The vehicles will be distributed to police stations in the Northern Province.

Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha stated that India will continue to extend similar assistance to Sri Lanka in the future.

In appreciation of the donation, Inspector General of Police Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya presented a commemorative gift to the Indian High Commissioner.

The event was attended by Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Ravi Seneviratne, and other senior officials of the Sri Lanka Police and representatives of the Indian High Commission.
