Workshop Held on “Social Strength” National Programme Development Plans for 2026 and 2027

A workshop on the development plans for 2026 and 2027 under the government’s “Social Strength” national programme was held yesterday (23) at the Presidential Secretariat.

The programme is aimed at empowering communities and ensuring that economic benefits are distributed fairly across society.

During the discussions, attention was focused on reviewing the projects already implemented under the “Social Strength” initiative to eradicate rural poverty and strengthen communities, as well as preparing a framework to identify proposals for 2027.

The Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, stated that the primary objective of the Social Strength national initiative is to free society from poverty, and emphasized that an integrated approach is essential to achieve this goal.

He further pointed out that not only ministries, departments, and state institutions, but also all development stakeholders, must work together on a common development platform.

The Presidential Secretary also stressed the importance of studying the strategies and methods adopted by developed countries in successfully implementing poverty alleviation programmes, while continuously reviewing current conditions and steadily advancing the Social Strength programme.
