Sameera Mehboobdeen Returns Safely to Sri Lanka After Gaza Aid Ship Incident

Sameera Mehboobdeen, who had been detained during the Israeli military operation against a humanitarian aid ship carrying relief supplies for the people of Gaza, safely returned to Sri Lanka on Sunday (24).
He arrived in the country on a special flight after being released from detention by Israeli forces in international waters.
Representatives of several civil society organisations and members of the public gathered at the airport to welcome him back to the country.
Representatives of the “Free Palestine” movement praised Sameera Mehboobdeen’s courageous humanitarian mission and warmly welcomed his safe return.
He had reportedly been travelling with an international humanitarian aid group to support people affected by the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza when he was detained by Israeli forces in international waters.
