Sri Lanka Health Minister Holds Bilateral Talks with Chairman of Nippon Foundation in Geneva

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, held a special bilateral meeting with the Chairman of Japan’s The Nippon Foundation, Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, in Geneva.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization.
During the discussions, attention was focused on several projects implemented in Sri Lanka with financial support from the Nippon Foundation, particularly hospital development initiatives. The talks also covered strengthening public health services, education, and disability welfare in Sri Lanka, along with special development programs aimed at reducing rural poverty, which is a national priority.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare systems in line with best practices in the region, drawing on his role as Chair of the WHO South-East Asia Regional Health Forum.
The Nippon Foundation is one of Japan’s leading private philanthropic organizations, engaged in humanitarian assistance, maritime safety, leprosy eradication programs, disability support, global education, and agricultural development initiatives.
Officials from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health and representatives of the Nippon Foundation also participated in the discussions.
