Sri Lanka Army Athlete Aruntavarasa Puvitharan Sets New National Record in Men’s Pole Vault

 

National athlete Aruntavarasa Puvitharan of the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club has set a new Sri Lanka national record in the men’s pole vault event.

The achievement was recorded during the selection trials organized by Sri Lanka Athletics at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex in Diyagama. The trials were conducted in preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

Puvitharan cleared a height of 5.18 metres, surpassing his own previous national record and establishing a new benchmark in the event. This performance further strengthens his position as Sri Lanka’s leading pole vaulter.

In the same competition, M.H.A. Sandaruwan of the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club secured second place with a clearance of 4.80 metres. H.S.E. Janith, also representing the Air Force, finished third with a height of 4.60 metres.

The event highlighted strong performances from Sri Lanka’s elite athletes as they continue preparations for major international competitions.
