Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Hirunika Premachandra Over 2022 Protest Case

A warrant has been issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Basan Amarasena ordering the arrest and production before court of former Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra and another individual.

The order was issued after the accused failed to appear before court for a scheduled hearing.

The case relates to a protest held in 2022 near the entrance of the Presidential Secretariat, during which proceedings were initiated against Hirunika Premachandra and 12 others.

When the case was taken up for hearing yesterday (15), the court proceeded with issuing the arrest warrant due to non-appearance of the accused.

Further legal proceedings are expected to continue once the defendants are produced before court.
