41st Anniversary Commemoration of Kumudini Massacre Held Emotionally in Neduntheevu

The 41st anniversary remembrance event of the Kumudini Massacre was held emotionally on Friday (15) in Neduntheevu.
The memorial event took place at 9.00 a.m. at the memorial monument premises located in the Mavilithurai Harbour area.
The main memorial flame was lit by Visuvalingam Annalakshmi, who lost her six-month-old infant during the massacre and was herself seriously injured. She still remains a living witness to the tragedy.
Subsequently, memorial lamps were lit by:
- Velan Swamigal, head of the Nallur Sivaguru Aadeenam
- P. Kamalaraj
- Hindu religious leader K. Bhuvanendrasharma
- Families of the victims and members of the public
Floral tributes were also paid at the memorial monument.
The floral wreath was jointly placed by Velan Swamigal, Father P. Kamalaraj, V. Ruthiran, and K. Navalan.
Following the remembrance ceremony, Mullivaikkal porridge (“Mullivaikkal Kanji”) was distributed by members of the island remembrance committee in memory of the humanitarian suffering experienced during Mullivaikkal Massacre.
Meanwhile, religious observances for the souls of those killed in the massacre were conducted simultaneously at 8.15 a.m. at:
- Mavilithurai Veerabhathrapillaiyar Temple
- Mavilithurai St. Xavier Church
The commemorative event was attended by relatives of the victims, religious leaders, and members of the public, who gathered to pay tribute and remember those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
