Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across Several Areas Amid Adverse Weather

Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions in the country, the highest rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 5.00 a.m. today (15) was recorded in Avissawella.
According to Irrigation Department Director of Hydrology and Disaster Management Engineer L. S. Sooriyabandara, the area received 180 millimetres of rainfall during that period.
Meanwhile:
- Hanwella recorded 158 millimetres of rainfall
- Deraniyagala recorded 122 millimetres of rainfall
He further stated that although the water level of the Kelani River had risen since last night, it has not yet reached warning level.
At the same time, 176 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in the Dunamale measuring station area and nearby locations along the Attanagalu Oya.
In addition, the Maha Oya water level has increased due to 172 millimetres of rainfall recorded yesterday in Giriulla.
Accordingly, water levels have risen in the Giriulla and Badalgama areas, although flood conditions have not yet been reported.
Engineer Sooriyabandara also stated that areas between the Gin River, Nilwala River, and Kalu River have received rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimetres.
