Two Doctors at Trincomalee General Hospital to Be Suspended

The Director General of Health Services has decided to suspend two doctors attached to the Trincomalee General Hospital.
The doctors include a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and a Senior House Officer serving at the hospital.
The decision was taken based on preliminary investigations conducted by the Ministry of Health into an incident involving the death of a newborn during a delivery that took place on April 9 at the hospital.
According to the investigation, six telephone calls had reportedly been made requesting the two doctors to come to the labour room due to complications during the delivery. However, they allegedly failed to arrive at the time.
It was also alleged that both doctors were engaged in performing a cesarean section at a private hospital during the incident. The Ministry of Health had launched preliminary investigations into those allegations as well.
The Health Ministry is expected to conduct a formal disciplinary inquiry regarding the incident.
