Sri Lanka Navy Seizes 622kg of Beedi Leaves in Kalpitiya Operation

Two suspects have been arrested during a special search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the Alankuda area of Kalpitiya.

The operation was carried out based on information received by the naval ship “Vijaya” of the North Western Naval Command.

During the search, a suspicious dinghy traveling in the Alankuda sea area was inspected. At that time, naval personnel discovered approximately 622 kilograms of beedi leaves packed in 20 sacks inside the boat.

The two suspects arrested in the operation have been identified as 29 and 30-year-old individuals from the Anawasala area.

The seized suspects, the dinghy boat, and the beedi leaves are to be handed over to the Department of Excise Sri Lanka in Puttalam for further legal action.
