Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka Introduces Digital Motor Insurance Cards

The Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, together with the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka and other stakeholders in the insurance sector, has decided to introduce digital motor insurance cards from May 01, 2026, replacing traditional motor insurance certificates issued by insurance companies.
Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Police has informed all police stations and issued the necessary instructions and guidelines regarding the new system.
This announcement has also been released to create public awareness about the initiative.
Under the new system, motor vehicle insurance coverage will be provided in the following formats:
- Digital Motor Vehicle Insurance Card
- Printed certificate (only upon the request of the policyholder)
- Digital insurance card issued to the policyholder through a mobile phone application provided by the insurance company.
