Vadatharakai Ferry Resumes Service to Delft Island

The Vadatharakai passenger ferry, which operates between Kurikattuwan and Delft Island (Neduntheevu), has resumed service from today (Monday, June 15) after the completion of repair work.
Previously, transportation to Delft Island faced significant difficulties as all three ferries serving the route—Vadatharakai, Neduntharakai, and Kumudini—had become inoperative due to mechanical issues.
Authorities subsequently took steps to expedite repairs and return the vessels to service as quickly as possible.
With the repair work on Vadatharakai now completed, the ferry has been reintroduced into passenger operations from today.
Meanwhile, the Neduntharakai ferry is currently undergoing repairs at the Kankesanthurai Harbour (KKS Harbour). Once the maintenance work is completed, it is expected to resume service shortly.
In addition, the Kumudini ferry, which was withdrawn from service due to engine failure, is currently undergoing engine repairs. Officials have stated that it will also be returned to service for public use once the repair work is completed.
The restoration of these ferry services is expected to ease transportation difficulties faced by residents and travelers commuting between Kurikattuwan and Delft Island.
