Prime Minister Meets UNICEF Representatives to Discuss Recovery of Education Sector

A delegation of UNICEF met with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya at the Temple Trees on June 12 to discuss ongoing efforts to recover the education sector from the impact of Cyclone “Ditwah”.

The discussion focused on implementing the activities outlined in the report titled “Ditwah Cyclone Education Emergency Response Plan – Phase I Progress Report (January–April 2026)”.

The meeting served as an opportunity to review progress achieved during the initial phase of the response and to discuss future interventions aimed at supporting affected students and schools.

Key topics included:

  • Ensuring continuity of education during emergencies
  • Improving welfare facilities for affected children
  • Strengthening bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and UNICEF

UNICEF representatives, including UNICEF Sri Lanka Representative Emma Brigham and Begona Arellano, participated in the discussions.
