“Clean Manning” Programme Launched

The “Clean Manning” programme to clean the Manning Market complex, one of Sri Lanka’s oldest and main wholesale vegetable and fruit distribution centres, was launched this morning under the leadership of Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, Upali Pannilage.

The Manning Market, currently located in the Peliyagoda area, has been identified as lacking proper environmental facilities suitable for traders to carry out their business activities comfortably.

It was observed that there are issues related to cleanliness and public convenience at this centre, which is visited daily by a large number of traders and consumers from various parts of the country for the buying and selling of vegetables and fruits.

Accordingly, the “Clean Manning” programme was organized jointly by the Peliyagoda Manning Market Traders Association, Peliyagoda Municipal Council, Peliyagoda Police Station, and the Urban Development Authority.

The event was attended by the Deputy Director General of the Urban Development Authority, Officer-in-Charge of the Peliyagoda Police Station, Chairman of the Manning Market Traders Association, police officers, government officials, security personnel, and a large number of traders.
