Venerable Walpola Vimalagnana Thero Conferred the Title of Mahanayaka

The ceremonial presentation of the Sri Sannas Patra conferring the title of Mahanayaka upon Walpola Vimalagnana Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Peliyagoda Gangaramaya and holder of the titles Aggamaha Saddhammajotikadhaja, Dhammasenapathi, and Bhashanthara Visharada, was held on June 6 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall with the participation of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
The ceremony was conducted under the patronage of Karagoda Uyangoda Maithree Moorthi Nayaka Thero, Mahanayaka of the Maha Viharavanshika Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya.
During the event, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya formally presented the Sri Sannas Patra, officially conferring the office of Mahanayaka of the Ariyawansa Saddhamma Yukthika Chapter of the Maha Viharavanshika Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya upon Venerable Walpola Vimalagnana Thero.
The occasion was attended by members of the Maha Sangha representing the three Nikayas, clergy from other faiths, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Gamagedara Dissanayake, distinguished guests, and a large gathering of devotees.
The ceremony marked an important religious milestone, recognizing Venerable Walpola Vimalagnana Thero’s elevation to the position of Mahanayaka within the Ariyawansa Saddhamma Yukthika Chapter of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya.
