Vesak Message – Prime Minister

It is a great honor to extend Vesak greetings to all citizens during this sacred season, when we reflect on and practice the noble teachings of the Lord Buddha.

Just as Vesak lanterns illuminate the world around us, may this Vesak also inspire us to brighten our hearts with compassion, kindness, and wisdom. Let us overcome greed, hatred, and delusion, and cultivate lives filled with peace, harmony, and understanding.

The Buddhist teaching “Abhittharetha Kalyane”“Hasten towards the common good” — serves as the theme of this year’s State Vesak Festival. It reflects the needs of our society today and reminds us to move beyond narrow beliefs and divisions. May this Vesak provide the inspiration and strength needed to build a nation guided by the values of the Dhamma and dedicated to the welfare of all.

Following the guidance of the Mahanayake Theros and the All Island Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya, best wishes are extended for the State Vesak Festival organized jointly by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

The strong bond between the State and Buddhism can contribute to the country’s progress and prosperity through righteous governance. As a nation, it is important that we develop the patience and resilience needed to overcome economic and social challenges while embracing the noble ideal: “May all beings be happy and live in peace.” Justice and fairness should be ensured for everyone, regardless of caste, ethnicity, or religion.

All are invited to celebrate an environmentally friendly and nature-conscious Vesak while following the Middle Path. Let us work together to build a society founded on moral values and principled conduct.

May everyone enjoy a peaceful, blessed, and meritorious Vesak. 🙏🏮✨
