Government Concessionary Railway Season Ticket System Goes Digital

The system for issuing concessionary railway season tickets to government employees has been digitised as part of Sri Lanka’s national digital transformation programme.

Accordingly, from July 2026, all concessionary railway season tickets can be obtained online through the official portal: Pravesha Portal

As part of this initiative, government institutions will be required to register on the Pravesha digital railway platform in order to apply for concessionary season tickets on behalf of their employees.

The official launch of the government institution registration process took place today (9) at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena.

Officials representing 35 government institutions participated in the initial registration programme.

Government employees requiring concessionary railway season tickets can register for the service through:

  • The Pravesha mobile application
  • The Pravesha Website
  • The designated Pravesha online portal of their respective government institution

Registration for government employees will commence from 15 June 2026, allowing them to register through their institutions and apply for concessionary season tickets for July.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and the Sri Lanka Railways under the Colombo Suburban Railway Project.

Authorities expect the initiative to support the government’s digital transformation agenda, improve the efficiency and quality of railway services, and provide a more convenient and accessible service for railway passengers and government employees.
