UK Calls for Truth, Justice and Accountability to Achieve Reconciliation in Sri Lanka

The United Kingdom has emphasized that meaningful progress on truth, justice and accountability is essential for building lasting reconciliation in Sri Lanka.
As Sri Lanka marked the 17th anniversary of the end of the war on May 18, families of those killed and forcibly disappeared during the conflict commemorated their loved ones both within the country and across the Tamil diaspora.
In a statement published on the official X account of the British High Commission in Sri Lanka, the UK stated:
“Today, 17 years later, we remember the families who continue searching for answers about what happened to their loved ones, including those killed and forcibly disappeared during Sri Lanka’s armed conflict.
Meaningful progress on truth, justice and accountability remains essential to building lasting reconciliation in Sri Lanka.”
The statement further stressed that addressing the concerns and demands for justice of war-affected families is vital to achieving sustainable peace and reconciliation in the country.
