Sri Lanka Highlights Ceylon Tea Legacy at 2026 International Tea Day Event in China

Sri Lanka reaffirmed its global tea heritage at the main International Tea Day celebrations held in Nanning, where Minister of Plantation, Community Infrastructure and Social Empowerment Samantha Vidyaratna represented the country.
Speaking at the International Tea Day conference held on 21 May in Guangxi Province, China, the Minister highlighted that “Ceylon Tea” has carried Sri Lanka’s name across the world for over 150 years, strongly reflecting quality, trust, and reputation.
He further emphasized that despite ongoing global economic and environmental challenges, Sri Lanka remains committed to sustainable tea production, ethical practices, and safeguarding the welfare of plantation communities while maintaining high-quality output.
The event brought together representatives from several tea-producing countries, including Cambodia, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Delegates from the Food and Agriculture Organization also participated, along with senior officials from China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government and agricultural authorities.
The conference served as a key platform to strengthen international cooperation and promote sustainable development within the global tea industry.
