Jaffna District Secretary Instructs CEB to Inform Local Authorities Before Cutting Tree Branches

The Jaffna District Secretary has instructed officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to inform local government authorities before cutting tree branches that obstruct electricity lines in the district.
The instruction was issued during the Jaffna District Environmental Committee meeting, where complaints were raised that CEB workers were indiscriminately cutting tree branches and leaving them abandoned on roadsides.
Following the concerns raised, the District Secretary directed that, in future, the CEB should coordinate with the relevant local government bodies before carrying out tree-cutting activities in any area.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Council, chairpersons of local government bodies, engineers from the Ceylon Electricity Board, Divisional Secretaries, and several other officials.
