Complaints Filed Over Remarks Allegedly Made by Dilum Amunugama Regarding Minor Girl

Complaints have reportedly been lodged against Dilum Amunugama, the National Organizer of Sarva Jana Balaya, over remarks allegedly made during a public media briefing held yesterday (20), in which a minor girl under state protection was allegedly referred to in a derogatory manner.
According to the complaint, a video clip containing the statement has since spread widely across social media platforms, generating significant public criticism and controversy.
The remarks are alleged to have been connected to a minor girl who is currently serving as a witness in an ongoing court case related to an abuse incident under investigation.
Authorities and child protection advocates have expressed concern that publicly criticizing or commenting on a child involved in an active judicial process could amount to verbal abuse and may further endanger the emotional and psychological well-being of the child.
It has also been reported that the child is presently under medical supervision and is receiving protection through the National Child Protection Authority.
In response to the incident, relevant authorities have reportedly instructed the Inspector General of Police and the National Child Protection Authority to conduct investigations and take appropriate legal action under the existing laws of the country.
Meanwhile, media institutions and social media users have been requested to avoid further sharing or circulating the video clip in order to protect the identity, privacy, and welfare of the child involved in the case.
