Special Discussion Held at Health Ministry Regarding Medical Faculty Students’ Issues

The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has taken steps to address issues raised by the Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee through discussions.
Following reports that the Medical Faculty Students’ group had planned a protest in Colombo yesterday (18) regarding several concerns, Deputy Minister of Health and Mass Media Hansaka Wijayamuni invited representatives of the student group to the Ministry of Health for discussions.
During the meeting, several matters were discussed in detail, including internship appointments for medical graduates, new recruitments, and the expansion of healthcare and medical services.
The Deputy Minister also held extensive discussions with ministry officials regarding additional concerns raised by representatives of the Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee related to the health sector.
He further agreed to bring the issues to the attention of the relevant departments and to continue discussions with officials and relevant institutions regarding the next steps needed to resolve them.
Representatives of the Medical Faculty Students’ group attended the discussion along with Additional Secretary (Administration) I.G.E. Janaka Kitsiri, Additional Secretary (Medical Services) Kumara Wickramasinghe, Deputy Director General (Medical Services) Dr. H.M. Arjuna Thilakaratne, and several other officials from the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.
