“Shaping the Future of Cancer across the Commonwealth” Conference

The conference titled “Shaping the Future of Cancer across the Commonwealth” was held with the aim of strengthening global cooperation in cancer control. The theme focused on developing a joint framework for cancer prevention and management based on the recommendations of the Lancet Oncology Commonwealth report.

The event was organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat, and was chaired by former Health Minister of Guyana H.E. Leslie Ramsammy.

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health, who also serves as the Chair of the South and South-East Asia Regional Committee of the World Health Organization, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, participated in and represented Sri Lanka at the conference.

He was accompanied by senior officials from Sri Lanka’s health sector, including the Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Dr. S. Sridharan, and Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative Mr. Sumith Dassanayake, along with several other senior health officials.

Meanwhile, the 79th World Health Assembly is currently being held at the headquarters of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, and will continue until May 23.
