Justice Must Be Delivered for Killings of Tamil People – MP Shrinath

Shrinath, Member of Parliament for Batticaloa District representing the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi, stated that justice and accountability must be ensured for the killings of Tamil people, and appealed to both the international community and the Sri Lankan government.
These remarks were made during Mullivaikkal remembrance events held on Thursday (14), the fourth day of the Mullivaikkal Remembrance Week, despite heavy rain.
The memorial event and porridge distribution program were organized by the Eastern Sri Lanka Hindu Priests’ Association in front of Sivananda National School in Kallady, Batticaloa.
The event was led by Sivashri Ganesha Loganathan Kurukkal, President of the Eastern Sri Lanka Hindu Priests’ Association, and attended by MP I. Shrinath along with members of the organization.
During the event, lamps were lit in remembrance of those killed in Mullivaikkal, followed by special prayers. Porridge was later distributed as a symbolic act representing the suffering experienced during the Mullivaikkal tragedy. Despite the heavy rain, many people participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering, MP Shrinath said the event was organized to remember the day when Tamil people were allegedly subjected to genocide and mass killings, and to pray for the spiritual liberation of those who died.
He also stated that the remembrance activities aimed to educate future generations about how Tamil civilians were allegedly killed in large numbers through planned attacks and cluster bombings during the final stages of the war.
Furthermore, he said the event also sought justice for those killed and those who disappeared, while continuously reminding both the international community and the Sri Lankan government about these issues.
According to him, the remembrance was also meant to honor those who sacrificed their lives for Tamil national rights and liberation during difficult times.
He added that similar emotional remembrance events are being held across several parts of Batticaloa District to ensure that future generations understand the suffering and losses experienced by the Tamil community in the past.
MP Shrinath also expressed gratitude to the Eastern Sri Lanka Hindu Priests’ Association and the Akkaraipattu Hindu Priests’ Association for their commitment and service beyond religious duties.
He praised their voluntary efforts in support of Tamil national causes and pledged his continued support and cooperation with them.
Concluding his remarks, he reiterated his appeal to both the international community and the Sri Lankan government to ensure justice and fairness for the Tamil people.
