Tribunal Orders Promotion of Shani Abeysekara to Deputy Inspector General Rank

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal has ordered that Shani Abeysekara, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and a Senior Superintendent of Police, be promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.

The decision was officially communicated today (13) to the National Police Commission.

According to the ruling, the promotion will take effect from August 25, 2026.

The tribunal has also instructed authorities to pay all outstanding salaries and allowances due to him for the period from the date of his suspension up to the present.
