Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day: Call to Close Liquor Shops in North & East

On 18.05.2026, Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day will be observed across the Northern and Eastern provinces.

In this context, the Kilinochchi District Traders Association has called on all business places, including liquor shops, to remain closed so that the remembrance events can be held in a respectful and successful manner.

They specifically requested that all liquor shops should be completely closed on that day, on behalf of the traders and people of Kilinochchi district.

They also urged all traders in the North and East to give full support for the remembrance activities.

The day marks the memory of those who died during the final phase of the 2009 war, and even after 17 years, it remains an important day of remembrance.
