Northern Province Development Talks Held Under Governor’s Leadership

A comprehensive discussion on development initiatives in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province has been held under the leadership of the provincial governor.
As part of the 2026 administrative agenda, three new members have been appointed to the Provincial Inquiry and Welfare Services Commission, with approval granted by the Northern Province Governor’s Office. The appointments are aimed at strengthening governance and improving administrative efficiency.
Authorities announced that development projects worth Rs. 1,875 million are set to be implemented, focusing on key sectors such as healthcare, education, transport, and social development.
Under the “Jaffna 2026” initiative, a total of 4,814 job opportunities are expected to be created, benefiting approximately 13,000 families. Additionally, more than 2,000 small and medium-scale entrepreneurs are set to receive support.
Officials stated that the newly appointed members will play a vital role in accelerating development programs, particularly in agriculture, industry, and human resource development.
The commission is also expected to enhance transparency in provincial administration and contribute to more effective decision-making for public welfare.
These appointments are being viewed as a significant step toward strengthening administrative capacity and advancing development in the Northern Province.
