Batticaloa Restaurant Fined Rs. 500,000 for Overpricing Bottled Water

A popular restaurant located in Batticaloa has been fined 500,000 rupees by the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court yesterday (2026.05.08) for selling a 500ml bottled drinking water priced at 70 rupees for 100 rupees.
The violation was discovered during a raid conducted by officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority in the Batticaloa District.
Following the inspection, the authorities filed a case before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday (08). After the establishment admitted to the offence, the court imposed the 500,000 rupee fine against the restaurant.
