Maldives President Receives Grand Welcome at Presidential Complex in Sri Lanka

The official welcoming ceremony for Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu was held today (04) at the Presidential Complex in Colombo under the leadership of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

President Muizzu is currently on a state visit to Sri Lanka following an invitation extended by President Dissanayake. The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, with a focus on enhancing economic, cultural, and social cooperation, as well as expanding multi-sectoral partnerships.

🔹 Official Reception Ceremony

Upon arrival at the Presidential Complex, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed were escorted with a ceremonial police horse guard procession. They were warmly received by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, marking the commencement of the official state ceremony.

The national anthems of both Sri Lanka and the Maldives were played, following which the formal welcome ceremony officially began.

🔹 Full State Honors

The event was conducted with full state protocol, including ceremonial gun salutes and military honors. President Muizzu received a guard of honor presented by the Sri Lanka Army, reflecting the diplomatic significance of the visit.

Following the ceremonial proceedings, both leaders participated in the formal introduction of delegations from Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

🔹 Diplomatic Engagements

As part of the visit, discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as trade, tourism, education, and maritime relations. The visit is also seen as an effort to further deepen long-standing ties between the two Indian Ocean nations.

During the ceremony, President Muizzu also signed the visitors’ book at the Presidential Complex, leaving a special note as a gesture of goodwill and diplomatic respect.

🔹 Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Officials noted that the visit represents an important step in reinforcing Maldives–Sri Lanka relations, with both sides expressing commitment to expanding collaboration and regional cooperation in the future.

The high-level engagement is expected to continue with further meetings between delegations from both countries during the course of the state visit.
