Sajith Premadasa Calls for Policy-Based Political Shift on May Day

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has emphasized the need to protect workers’ rights and move towards a policy-driven political approach, marking the occasion of International Workers’ Day.
Issuing a special May Day statement today (27), he stated that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya aims to take a significant step toward ensuring prosperity for all citizens while safeguarding the rights of the working population.
Premadasa further noted that the country must move away from what he described as an outdated political culture and current political maneuvering, and instead adopt a middle-path approach focused on:
- Social democracy
- A social market economy
He stressed that such a direction would help rebuild the nation on strong policy foundations.
Call for Unity
The Opposition Leader also extended an invitation to:
- Members and supporters of the United National Party
- Progressive citizens committed to national development
He urged them to join hands with his party for the country’s progress.
Premadasa called on the public to gather in large numbers on May 1 at the P. D. Sirisena Grounds in Maligawatte, Colombo, to demonstrate unity and support for this initiative.
He concluded by reiterating that collective action and unity are essential to building a better future for Sri Lanka.
