Lightning Strike Claims Life of Young Woman
A 26-year-old woman has died after being struck by lightning in the Kokwatta area, which falls under the Habaraduwa Police Division, amid prevailing adverse weather conditions.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of the Kokwatta, Habaraduwa area. According to initial reports, both women affected by the lightning strike were employees of a garment factory in the area.
Investigations reveal that the incident occurred when lightning struck the hostel where they were staying.
Both victims were immediately admitted to Meepe Hospital. However, one woman succumbed to her injuries despite treatment.
The other injured woman has been transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further medical care.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Habaraduwa Police.
