A close associate of an organized criminal believed to be hiding overseas has been arrested with a cache of ammunition in the Katunayake area.
The suspect was apprehended during a raid conducted early this morning (06) by officers attached to the Special Task Force camp in the Heenatiyana area, within the Katunayake Police Division.
Police recovered 54 T-56 type rounds of ammunition along with a magazine from the suspect at the time of arrest.
The individual, identified as a 25-year-old resident of Minuwangoda, Heenatiyana, has been handed over to the Katunayake Police Station for further investigations.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the seized ammunition and magazine are believed to belong to an organized criminal currently evading authorities abroad.
Katunayake Police have launched further investigations into the incident to uncover additional links and details related to the case.
