Russian Health Minister Concludes Official Visit to Sri Lanka

A delegation led by Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko departed Sri Lanka this morning (05) after successfully concluding a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector.
The delegation left the country via Bandaranaike International Airport, where they were seen off by Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni and Director of International Health at the Ministry of Health Dr. Anil Samaranyake. Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Levan Dzhagaryan was also present at the farewell.
During the visit, Minister Murashko held high-level discussions with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa, focusing on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector.
Key areas of discussion included strengthening primary healthcare services in Sri Lanka and integrating modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the healthcare system. The delegation also explored opportunities to improve healthcare delivery through technological advancements.
As part of the visit, the Russian delegation toured the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo yesterday (04). During these visits, they inspected the newly established outpatient department’s emergency treatment unit at the National Hospital and reviewed academic and clinical facilities at the university’s medical faculty.
The primary objective of the visit was to explore ways to enhance healthcare services using modern technology and to strengthen collaboration between the two nations. Discussions also covered cooperation in pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, training and education for medical professionals, Ayurveda, digitalization of healthcare systems, and links between health and tourism sectors.
Officials noted that the visit marked a significant step forward in deepening Sri Lanka–Russia relations in the health sector, with both sides expressing commitment to continued collaboration in the future.
