Discussions Held on Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya Esala Perahera
A discussion on organizing and providing state support for the annual Esala Perahera of Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya was held yesterday (29) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Presidential Secretary Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The 76th Esala Perahera of Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya is scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 16.
Recognized as one of the major peraheras in Sri Lanka—second only to the Kandy Esala Perahera—the discussion focused on conducting this year’s procession with government support as well.
Accordingly, it was decided to obtain financial assistance, with Treasury approval, from several state institutions including the Department of Public Trustee, Bank of Ceylon, People’s Bank, National Savings Bank, Development Lotteries Board, National Lotteries Board, Sri Lanka Telecom, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka, and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
Among those present were the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Bellanwila Pemasiri Thero, Viharadikari Ven. Bellanwila Sankarathana Thero, Member of Parliament Lakshman Nipuna Arachchi, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, and several officials and representatives from sponsoring institutions.
