Jaffna MP Ramanathan Archchuna Arrested Over Firearm Threat Incident

Ramanathan Archchuna has been arrested by Ilavalai Police in connection with an incident involving the alleged use of a personal firearm to threaten a woman.
Police stated that the arrest was made following an investigation into a confrontation that took place in the Periyavilaan area over a disputed land. The incident reportedly escalated into a heated argument, during which the MP allegedly brandished a firearm. Videos of the incident circulated on social media, drawing significant public attention.
Archchuna had been summoned to the police station to provide a statement. After recording his statement, officers proceeded with the arrest. Arrangements are underway to produce him before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, based on a complaint filed by the MP alleging trespassing and intimidation, a woman was also arrested in connection with the same incident. She was produced before court and has been remanded until the 29th.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
