Increase in Fertilizer Transport Charges Raises Concerns

Farmers have raised concerns over a sharp increase in transport charges collected during the distribution of fertilizer for the minor cultivation season.

According to farmers, the transport fee, which was previously Rs. 50, has now increased to as much as Rs. 300. They point out that this charge is collected for transporting fertilizer from Colombo to local Agrarian Service Centers.

In addition, it is reported that farmers are currently required to pay around Rs. 9,550 to obtain a single bag of fertilizer from these centers.

Farmers claim that these increased costs are placing an additional financial burden on them during the cultivation period.
