Couple Hospitalized After Assault Allegedly by Local Council Member and Group

A couple has been seriously injured following an alleged assault by a group including Gayan Adhikari, a member of the National People’s Power representing the Ipalogama Pradeshiya Sabha.

The victims, residents of Vijithapura in the Aluthpuliyankulama area of Ipalogama, were reportedly attacked during a New Year event held at the Hiripitiyagama playground on Saturday (25).

According to the victims, the incident occurred during the official celebration organized by the Ipalogama Pradeshiya Sabha.

Injuries Reported

• The woman sustained bleeding from the ear
• The man suffered a fractured arm
• Additional injuries were reported to the head and legs

The injured couple was initially admitted to the Kekirawa District Hospital and later transferred to the Dambulla Base Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the incident.
