Sri Lanka Launches First Digital Motor Insurance Card

Sri Lanka has officially introduced its first-ever digital motor insurance card, marking a major step toward national digital transformation.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, the new system will come into effect from May 1.

The initiative is expected to enhance public safety and streamline verification processes while supporting the country’s broader digitalization efforts.

The digital insurance card has been launched in collaboration with:

  • Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka
  • Insurance Association of Sri Lanka
  • Sri Lanka Police

Officials stated that this initiative represents a significant advancement in modernizing public services and improving efficiency in the insurance and transport sectors.
