Four Suspected War-Era Bombs Recovered in Kilinochchi

Four bombs believed to have been used during the war have been recovered from the Venerikulam area in Akkarayankulam, Kilinochchi.

Initial information regarding the discovery was reported on 07 May 2026 to the Jeyapuram Police Station by officials of the HALO Trust demining organisation. However, as the location falls under the jurisdiction of the Akkarayankulam Police Division, further action was taken accordingly.

Following information provided by HALO Trust officials yesterday (08 May 2026) at around 2.30 p.m., officers attached to the Akkarayankulam Police Station visited the site and recovered the four explosive devices.

The recovered bombs are currently being kept under tight police security.

Police stated that a report regarding the incident will be submitted to the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court today (09 May 2026).

After receiving court approval and instructions, steps will be taken to safely deactivate and dispose of the explosives.
