New Vehicle Number Plates to Include Owner’s Name

Sri Lanka’s Department of Motor Traffic has announced plans to introduce standardized vehicle registration number plates by the end of May.

The update was revealed during a meeting of the Committee on Public Finance, where department officials stated that the new plates will be issued for newly registered vehicles.

In addition, authorities are planning to introduce a new system allowing vehicle number plates to include the owner’s name.

Officials noted that this special initiative will be implemented once the department’s computer system upgrade is completed, enabling more advanced and customized registration services.
