Second Phase of Kurikattuwan Jetty Rehabilitation Launched

The second phase of the rehabilitation project of the Kurikattuwan Jetty was officially launched today by the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.

The project was inaugurated by Bimal Rathnayake, who unveiled the project name board at the site.

The rehabilitation work is being carried out with an allocation of Rs. 984.03 million and is expected to be completed by October 27.

Speaking at the event, the Minister stated that efforts are underway to establish a fuel station in the island region once the jetty reconstruction is completed.

He emphasized that development initiatives should be carried out equally across the country, noting that Colombo and Jaffna are not governed separately but fall under the same national development framework.

The Minister also highlighted that approximately Rs. 2,000 crore has been allocated for road rehabilitation across the Northern Province, stressing the need to accelerate delayed development projects in the region.

He further noted the importance of redeveloping the jetty as a key location visited by people from all communities, without regional or ethnic divisions.
