With the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election 2026<\/span><\/span> reaching its final phase, election campaigning has officially concluded, and the mandatory 48-hour \u201csilence period\u201d has come into effect.<\/p>\n

This period, observed before voting begins, is considered crucial to ensure that voters can make independent decisions without influence or pressure. The Election Commission enforces strict rules during this time.<\/p>\n

Under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act 1951<\/span><\/span>, all forms of election campaigning are strictly prohibited during the 48 hours leading up to the close of polling.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, from 6:00 p.m. on April 21:<\/p>\n

  • Public meetings and rallies are banned<\/em><\/li>\n
  • Processions and political gatherings are not allowed<\/em><\/li>\n
  • Use of loudspeakers or any form of vote solicitation is strictly prohibited<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
