Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Vanni District MP Durairasa Ravikaran has called for international justice over the Mullivaikkal tragedy, stating that accountability remains unfulfilled even 17 years after the end of the war.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (06) during the debate on the Recovery, Rehabilitation and Insolvency Bill, the MP emphasized the need for justice for those who were forcibly disappeared after surrendering to the military during the final stages of the conflict. He also urged authorities to release Tamil political prisoners who continue to be held in detention.<\/p>\n
Before addressing the Bill, Ravikaran stated that he wished to raise concerns as the voice of a community still waiting for justice. He noted that the armed conflict that affected the Tamil population was brought to an end with the support of several countries, but alleged that serious violations occurred during the final phase of the war.<\/p>\n
He further stated that countless lives were lost in Mullivaikkal and that many families are still searching for their missing relatives. According to him, despite placing trust in the State, those who surrendered remain unaccounted for to this day.<\/p>\n
Ravikaran questioned how reconciliation could be achieved without delivering justice, stressing that the continued denial of accountability undermines efforts toward national unity. He added that another year will pass on May 18 without meaningful progress on reconciliation.<\/p>\n
Paying tribute in Parliament, he remembered those who lost their lives during the conflict, including civilians and fighters, and reiterated his appeal to both the Sri Lankan authorities and the international community to ensure justice for the affected communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
