A Dhamma school teacher has been sentenced to 24 years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy.<\/p>\n
The judgment was delivered by Monaragala High Court Judge Dr. Damith Nalinda Hewawasam on Thursday (30).<\/p>\n
The accused, Urumuttha Gamage Chandana (47) from Ethimale, Monaragala, had taken the victim to a secluded location on a bicycle in 2015 and committed the abuse.<\/p>\n
He was charged under two counts and received 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for each count, amounting to a total of 24 years. However, the sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve 12 years in prison.<\/p>\n
In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 for each count and ordered him to pay Rs. 500,000 as compensation to the victim. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional one-year simple imprisonment, while failure to pay compensation will lead to a further three-year simple imprisonment.<\/p>\n
